Chautauqua Opportunities Names New Executive Director

JAMESTOWN – The Board of Directors at Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. has named Franklin Monjarrez as the agency’s new Executive Director.  Monjarrez will replace Roberta Keller, who is retiring in January 2018 after leading the community action agency for 20 years.

“Mr. Monjarrez’ unique experience and background in Human Service, in addition to bilingualism, will serve COI well in its efforts to expand services to a growing Hispanic and Latino community in Chautauqua County,” Board Chairperson Marie Carrubba said. “We are very fortunate that he has accepted this opportunity to direct COI as the agency faces new challenges in funding and service delivery.”

Monjarrez brings 20 years of social services senior management experience, including program development, accreditation and peer review, fiscal management knowledge and practice, community leadership and collaborations, as well as a commitment to serving low-income, in-crisis populations.  He has held executive positions at the University of Miami, the Cuban National Council, Inc. and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami, Inc.

Through his tenure with these agencies, Monjarrez has worked in areas such as Head Start, economic development, family and elderly services, as well as health and crisis intervention. Monjarrez holds a Florida International University Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in children and families.

“I’m deeply honored and humbled by the opportunity to join and be part of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. For over 50 years, COI has distinguished itself by being a customer driven, strength and outcome based agency. Our staff and I remain committed to this vision and look forward to tirelessly and purposely continuing our work on behalf of the thousands of clients served annually by our agency,” Monjarres said.

A reception to introduce and welcome Monjarrez is planned for January 10, from 2 p.m. to  4 p.m. at the Chautauqua Suites Meeting and Expo Center in Mayville.  The event is open to the community.

Throughout its more than 50- year history, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. has responded to the needs of the local community. The non-profit has worked with cities, counties, school districts, private businesses, religious organizations, philanthropy, and government to launch hundreds of programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening households and communities.
