FRANKLINVILLE – Leonard Caros, head of the Cattaraugus County Conservative party, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into his allegations that the Cattaraugus County Republican Party is trying to overthrow his party.
Caros told the Olean Times Herald that he expects to be interviewed next week. Caros said the FBI asked for the interview.
The FBI will review Caros’ files, which he said may contain evidence of violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, known as RICO.
Caros is accusing the GOP of trying to remove him as Conservative Party chairman and interfering with party operations.
He alleges the GOP had party faithful register as Conservative even though they do not share the party’s beliefs, which he says is illegal.
The Cattaraugus County Board of Elections held a hearing Wednesday on specific objections filed by Caros regarding the Conservative Party Committee nominations.
