VIDEO: Sheriff Deputies Honored After Quick Actions Save A Man

MAYVILLE-Two Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies were honored Tuesday with Liberty Medals, New York State Senate’s highest recognition.

The quick actions of Deputy Jason Bichner and Deputy Christopher Howlett helped save the life of a 28-year-old man involved in a motorcycle accident on Rt.83 last fall.

Senator Cathy Young honored the men during the presentation.

Sheriff Joseph Gerace thanked both deputies for their actions and said he is blessed to have them in his department.

The deputies were originally dispatched to a serious motorcycle wreak with amputations. The deputies quickly worked by deploying a tourniquet that ultimately saved the victim’s life.

Sheriff Gerace is implementing a new EMT program that will help provide an increased response to emergency situations.
