BUFFALO – A man shot by Buffalo Police Tuesday died Wednesday in Erie County Medical Center, according to WNYNewsNow’s newspartner WIVB-TV.
The suspect, 47, was shot at about 11:30 p.m Tuesday during a pursuit as an alleged shoplifter, police said. According to police, the suspect charged officers with a knife.
The suspect fled when spotted by police, according to Capt. Jeff Rinaldo of the Buffalo Police Department. Just after 11:30, police saw the suspect Amherst Street. Police gave chase on foot to Gladstone Street.
Rinaldo said the individual climbed onto a flat roof of a garage on Gladstone Street, where officers confronted him. The man then allegedly charged officers with a knife.
One officer fired a weapon, hitting the suspect, Rinaldo said.
The shooting victim was taken to ECMC and surgery was performed. He was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon.
The Buffalo Police Homicide Squad and Internal Affairs Division were on scene investigating. As per routine protocol, police contacted the Erie County District Attorney.
