WASHINGTON – On Monday, New York State Congressman Tom Reed (R-NY23) announced he reintroduced a bill to recognize the National Comedy Center as the only museum of its kind to exist for the exclusive purpose of celebrating comedy in all of its forms.

“While this bill passed the House last July, it did not make it up for a vote in the Senate before the end of the Congress,” Tom said. “We care about ensuring Jamestown is to comedy as Cooperstown is to baseball and Cleveland is to rock and roll. We find it unfortunate our colleagues in the Senate declined to give the National Comedy Center a fair shot at the recognition it deserves last year.

“We look forward to continuing our work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure this bill passes the House and Senate and is signed into law by the President this Congress,” Tom concluded.

Reed first introduced this bill in June of 2018 after a visit to the center, and it was later passed unanimously in the House of Representatives in July.

The National Comedy Center was named a finalist as the “Best New Attraction of 2018” by the USA Today. The winner of the contest will be announced on Friday, January 18 at noon.

In 2017, Congressman Reed said he helped connect the National Comedy Center with Federal New Market Tax Credit financing after noticing what a large impact the center would have on the area.

These tax credits allowed for an increased flow of capital to the National Comedy Center by providing tax incentives to private investors.

Reed also coordinated conversations between the National Comedy Center and the Economic Development Administration to ensure additional funding for the project.
