JAMESTOWN – The snow might have finally ended across the region but the cold air is not going away anytime soon.
Some areas of the Southern Tier picked up a good heathy amount of snow over the past 48 hours, as expected. The last time we seen snow totals close to this was way back on November 28, in which nearly 3 feet of snow fell across the Southern Tier.
High pressure has started to build in across the Northeast which has cleared out a lot of cloud cover but with a north to northwest wind, that’s still dragging in polar air.
A storm system that is impacting the Midwest with some winter weather will scoot across parts of the Northeast over the weekend.
Earlier in the week, there were some thoughts that the system could have some impacts Western New York. Now, the computer models are keeping the storm to the south of the reagion.
However do its close proximity, there will be more clouds filtering in throughout the day on Saturday.
The possibility does exist for a light snow shower right down near the NY/PA line late Saturday as the system moves through but the overall chance is small; 20 to 25 percent at most.
Looking into next week, temps will briefly hover near the averages for this time of the year before more Arctic air comes in for late next week.
