JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown man, who is a convicted felon, was allegedly in possession of a rifle case containing a .22-cal rifle during an incident Thursday morning in the area of East Sixth and Grant Streets, according to the Jamestown Police Department.
Police said an officer observed Cain R. Colville, 26, walking along the street with the case. When the officer tried to stop Colville and ask about the case, he allegedly fled.
Additional officers were dispatched, and they reportedly found him in the area of the backyard where he ran from. Police were, then, able to locate the rifle and determine that Colville is a convicted felon, which means he can’t be in possession of any firearms or rifles.
Colville was taken into custody and is charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Colville is currently in the Jamestown City Jail awaiting arraignment.
Police said the investigation is continuing and additonal arrests and charges are expected.
A check of the New York State Department of Corrections revealed that Colville spent previously spent just under two-and-a-half years in prison for third-degree criminal mischief.
