GERRY – A Cassadaga man is charged with driving while intoxicated after he reportedly left the scene of an accident he was allegedly involved in Wednesday, according to the New York State Police.

Howard Roberts, 74, was reportedly driving north on Route 60 when he entered the southbound lane and collided with a vehicle that was pulling a trailer. Following the collision, Roberts allegedly turned around and fled the scene. Witnesses to the accident reportedly followed Roberts.

Roberts’ vehicle reportedly became disabled in a parking lot. Roberts was transported to UPMC Hospital in Jamestown and a blood sample was secured. The driver of the other vehicle was also treated at UPMC Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Upon his release from the hospital, Roberts was processed at SP Jamestown, issued tickets, and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Gerry Court next month.

Chautauqua County EMS and the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
