Mainly Dry This Afternoon; Very Mild And Rainy Thursday Ahead

JAMESTOWN – Looking past the cloud cover today, temps will be up near 50 through the afternoon as milder air is coming back to Western New York.

There is a slight chance for an isolated rain shower through the afternoon but the majority of the day will be dry. Expect more clouds than sun so it won’t be as sunny as it was yesterday.

A deep area of Low pressure associated with a storm system will pass west of our region in the upper Great Lakes. With us being on the eastern side of this storm, we will be on the milder side of it.

Widespread rain will come our way throughout the day on Thursday, with the potential for some thunderstorm activity embedded within some of the heavier rain Thursday night. Some very mild air will also be ushered into this system. High will be in the lower to mid 60s across much of Western New York.

In terms of rainfall, we’re looking at between a half inch to one inch of rain through Friday. In combination with the warmer temperatures, that could elevate the flood risk from ice melt on local streams and creeks. That is something will have to keep our eyes on as we go throughout the next 48 or so hours.

Beyond this week, temps fall back below average for the weekend with some snow showers likely on Saturday. We do see a rebound by Tuesday as we will make it back into the lower 40s for most areas around the Southern Tier.
