The White House reports former Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia will be presented with the award later this month.

The 43-year-old was previously awarded the Silver Star but will have that distinction upgraded to the medal of honor, the nation’s highest award for combat valor.

To date, the Medal of Honor has only been awarded posthumously to service members who served during the Iraq War.

Bellavia will be recognized for his actions on November 10, 2004.

White House officials said he saved members of his platoon after they were attacked. It was his 29th birthday.

The ceremony will take place June 25 with President Trump presenting the award.
