WESTERN NEW YORK – A small change in sleeping habit may shut down weight loss; but it depends on how a new study is interpreted.

The study, published Monday, suggests a link between weight gain in women and sleeping with lights on.

Researchers with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences looked at women who slept with a television on or a night-light in the room.

They found those women had a 17 percent change of gaining 11 pounds over a five-year period.

The same women also supposedly had a 22 percent chance of becoming overweight and a 33 percent chance of becoming obese.

Scientists admit the study has its limits, they say more research is needed.
