MOORESVILLE (Nc.) – Lowe’s said it’s laying off thousands of workers.
They include people who assemble items like grills and patio furniture, and maintenance and facility-service jobs, such as janitors.
The company said it’s outsourcing those jobs to third-party companies, to let store associates spend more time on the sales floor serving customers. Lowe’s, however, wouldn’t say exactly how many workers are being laid off.
Workers whose jobs are being eliminated will be given transition pay and the chance to apply for open roles within the company.
Lowe’s has more than 1,700 stores in the U.S.
As of February, Lowe’s employed about 190,000 full-time and 110,000 part-time workers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
