Partial Sunshine This Afternoon, Storms Return Thursday With More Humidity

JAMESTOWN – A Canadian High pressure ridge is providing Western New York with some dry weather and lower humidity for the afternoon. However, some showers and storms return tomorrow with the humidity coming back in a big way by the weekend.

With a Canadian High, it can often be hard to clear out the cloud cover across the area. We’ll call today partly to mostly sunny with more clouds to the south. High temp range 74 on the hills to near 80 along lower elevations.

The humidity will drop back quite a bit for tonight, especially inland away from the lake, leading to a nice sleeping night with morning lows in the mid to upper 50s to lower 60s near the lakeshore.

A disturbance passing close to the region will be the focal point for a few showers and storms Thursday afternoon and evening. While forecast instability is rather weak, NOAA Storm Prediction Center does have the Southern Tier and Northwest Pennsylvania under a low-end Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for severe thunderstorms.

The main threats will be from gusty winds and possibly some heavy downpours at times.

As the wind flow aloft begins to change late this week, we will start to see the return of summer like heat and humidity over the weekend with highs in the lower to upper 80s. With the higher humidity levels acting as fuel for thunderstorm development, we have upped the rain chances a bit for Saturday and Sunday. However, neither day will be a total wash with plenty of dry time in between.
