ALBANY — New York’s Democratic governor is facing calls for action as prescription drug costs rise.

AARP is pushing across the country for reform and announced Tuesday that its new analysis of federal survey data shows one in five New York adult residents stopped taking medication as prescribed largely because of rising cost.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office said it’s still working on the budget due next year. The governor said he’ll do everything he can to reel in high drug cost.

The national advocacy group’s New York organization supports a package of Albany legislation that, among other things, would allow the safe importation of prescription drugs at lower prices than New Yorkers now pay.
