Gusty Winds Develop This Evening, Temperatures Plummet Tomorrow

JAMESTOWN – A potent Cold front moving through the Great Lakes will pass through Western New York tomorrow, bringing some gusty winds out ahead of that front and some potential lakeshore flooding from high wave action. Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Friday after the fontal passage.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Chautauqua County, going into effect at 11 pm. this evening and running through 10 a.m. Friday.

There is also a Lakeshore Flood Warning in effect for Chautauqua County also running until 10 a.m. Friday morning. The combination of gusty winds, high lake water level, and high wave action could cause some flooding right near the immediate Lake Erie shoreline.

Through the remainder of the day today, there may be a spotty shower through the afternoon otherwise, mostly cloudy. Highs 38 to 45.

The winds will start to increase later this afternoon and tonight out ahead of the Cold front. The strongest winds will likely occur from a time frame around 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

During this time, wind gusts could reach 50 MPH in a few places with the overall strongest winds from a zone extending from the Lake Erie Shoreline into the hillier terrain.

Rain showers will also develop ahead of the front and become a bit more widespread through the overnight. Temps won’t likely move much and will stay somewhere in the 37 to 43-degree range.

The high temperatures tomorrow are going to occur early in the morning. As the front moves through, the temperatures will drop from west to east with the advancing front. We’ll start at 39 to 45, dropping to 28 to 33 by the end of the day. Wind gusts early in the day could still range 40 to 45 MPH but will gradually subside through the day.

Saturday will be nice day weather wise with some partial sunshine but cooler with highs in the lower 40s.

While the majority of the day on Sunday will be dry, there is the potential for a light wintry mix through the day. Highs in the upper 30’s.

As we kick off the holiday traveling week, it is looking good with partial sunshine Monday and Tuesday with temperatures in the mid 40’s.

The track of a potential storm system mid next week will be the deciding point on the forecast for Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day. As of right now, it appears that Wednesday will be the better day with highs nearing 50 degrees and maybe a couple scattered showers.

While still out in “Voodoo Country”, long range signs point to the day possibly being chilly with some precipitation possible. The exact precipitation we could see is still a little bit in question at this point but we should know a little more details tomorrow and through the weekend.
