JAMESTOWN – A group dedicated to developing opportunities for new and existing entrepreneurs in Chautauqua County was recently awarded a sizable grant.

Congressman Tom Reed says Chautauqua Opportunities will receive a $139,000 grant to help the organization with their community efforts.

Reed says its important to invest in organizations that are willing to invest in local business.

“These small business owners are ready and willing to invest in the community – so we should be ready to invest in them,” said Reed. “Chautauqua Opportunities for Development Inc. is ready to do this, and we are proud to have supported this program.”

Chautauqua Opportunities for Development is an affiliate corporation of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. established in 2002 to further expand the economic development activities of the organization.

The group’s chief executive officer says the money will be put to good use.

“It provides us with the ability to build upon the economic development services we currently offer area entrepreneurs and small businesses,” said Chautauqua Opportunities CEO Diane Hewitt-Johnson. “CODI is committed to being an active, community-oriented organization that extends credit, training and technical assistance to those who would otherwise lack access to those services.”

She says her group has been providing technical assistance and small business loans since 2001; and plan to expand upon those services in the future.
