BROOKVILLE, Pa. – A viral video showing two young Pennsylvania hunters beating and torturing a white-tailed deer is now under investigation.
The Pennsylvania State Game Wardens made the announcement Sunday.
“The Pennsylvania Game Commission is aware of a video purporting to show individuals assaulting an injured deer,” the agency said. “The conduct portrayed in the video is reprehensible and potentially a violation of the law.”
“If you have any information related to the video, we ask that you report it to the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-888–PGC-8001 or the Game Commission’s Northwest Region Dispatch Office at 814-432-3187,” the agency continued. “Thank you for your help and for your concern for Pennsylvania wildlife.”
In the video, two young hunters are shown ripping off the deer’s antlers after they shot it, kicking its face and stepping on its legs while it was still alive.
The video sparked outrage and disgust from many on social media.
WNYNewsNow has chosen not to share the video due to its graphic nature.
So far, one online petition was launched seeking felony charges against the boys. As of 5 p.m. Sunday nearly 55,000 people signed it.
Saturday was the start of the deer firearms hunting season in Pennsylvania.
