RIPLEY – A Ripley man was arrested following a reported burglary and assault Sunday evening.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to an address on W. Main Street in the Town of Ripley just before 6 p.m. for a reported burglary in progress.

Deputies said through investigation they believe Edwin Munson, 34, entered a residence unlawfully and while inside damaged property, violated an order of protection, caused physical injury to another person and choked the person.

The Sheriff’s Office said the alleged actions occurred in the presence of multiple children under the age of 17.

Munson was located with help from the New York State Police a short distance away from the residence.

He is charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree assault, second-degree criminal contempt, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.
