County Issues Code Blue Warning

MAYVILLE – Cold temperatures and frigid wind chills have prompted the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services to issue a Code Blue Warning.

The warning is triggered when temperatures reach 32 degrees or lower and requires shelter access to anyone in need of assistance.

During normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, people seeking emergency shelter should report to the Department of Health and Human Services offices in Dunkirk or Jamestown where emergency shelter will be arranged.


After normal business hours and on weekends and holidays, persons seeking emergency shelter or those who know of someone who is in need of emergency shelter or who is experiencing homelessness should contact the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office by dialing 911 and shelter assistance will be provided.

Assistance will also be provided by any local law enforcement agency in Chautauqua County.

In addition, the following Chautauqua County library warming centers may be open during the following hours and at the following locations:
