Bonnies Drop Atlantic 10 Opener To Fordham, 79-53

BRONX – The St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball team fell to Fordham, 79-53, Saturday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym to open Atlantic 10 play.

Asianae Johnson led the Bonnies (3-11, 0-1 Atlantic 10) with 18 points. Also in double figures for the Bonnies was Dajah Logan who tallied 12 points.

Defending A-10 champion Fordham (9-5, 1-0) took what was a six-point game at halftime and changed the complexion of the contest by outscoring Bona 27-8 in the third quarter, including a 24-4 run to pull away. Fordham shot 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the floor in the third quarter to seize control.





The Bonnies grabbed an early 7-5 lead after a Logan three-pointer just over two minutes into the contest. St. Bonaventure and Fordham went back and forth the last eight minutes of the first quarter and the Rams grabbed the lead, 21-19, as the first period ended.

The second quarter was much of the same between the two teams as the Bonnies and Rams traded blows. Fordham used a 10-2 run as the quarter opened to take a 10-point, 31-21, lead with 6:30 to play in the half.

The Bonnies pulled back within four after a Deja Francis layup with 4:55 to play.





















Fordham used another run to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Bre Cavanaugh led the way for the Rams with a game-high 29 points. As a team, Fordham shot 29-of-55 (52.7 percent) from the floor.

The Bonnies return home to the Reilly Center as they host UMass Wednesday, Jan. 8. Tip is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

• St. Bonaventure used a starting lineup of Asianae Johnson, Olivia Brown, Amanda Oliver, Dajah Logan and Jurnee President.

• The Bonnies shot 23-for-53 (43.4 percent) from the floor Saturday afternoon.

• Leading the Bonnies on the boards was senior Amanda Oliver who hauled in a team-high six rebounds.
