JAMESTOWN – Some residents in the Southern Tier are waking up in the dark as howling winds moved through the region early Sunday morning.
The City of Jamestown BPU says Power in the Village of Celoron was restored around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Wind had brought down a 20-30 foot pine tree on Jones and Gifford near the marinas, causing the outage.
Crews are responding to the isolated areas of the City and one in West Ellicott, where trees and limbs have knocked down power lines. A crew is dispatched to the Fluvanna area on Bentley between Fluvanna and Old Fluvanna Road where trees have fallen, causing the power outages.
As of 5 a.m., over 500 National Grid customers in Chautauqua County are without power with the majority of those outages occurring in the Village of Lakewood. Another 60 or so customers in Cattaraugus County are without power.
NYSEG is reporting over 400 customers are without power in the Village of Randolph, 14 in the Town of Ellington.
In Northwestern Pennsylvania, Penelec has reported over 700 customers are experiencing a power outage in Erie and Warren Counties, with the majority of those outages in Erie County.
WNYNewsNow‘s Chief Weather Forecaster Dakota Hunter said the winds will remain their strongest through 9 a.m. this morning at which point the winds will start to diminish through the remainder of the day.
