CHAUTAUQUA LAKE – One person was taken to the hospital after a fishing boat capsized on Chautauqua Lake Saturday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Navigation unit responded to a capsized Bass Boat in the Loomis Bay Road area just after 2 p.m.

Deputies say a good samaritan was towing the capsized boat. One of the boaters wearing a life jacket was in the water on the fishing boat that was being towed into shore.

The operator of vessel said he had a passenger on the boat who had swam to shore.

Sheriff’s deputies secured both the driver of the bass boat as well as the passenger on a dock near the accident.

The driver of the boat along with the passenger were being transported to the launch area of Prendergast Point when the passenger of the bass boat began to show signs of shock and or hypothermia.

The passenger of the fishing boat stated he was not feeling well. Deputies discontinued travel to Prendergast Point and stopped at the Long Point Sheriff’s subdivision to render first aid.

The Bemus Point Fire Department responded and transported the boater to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital.
