JAMESTOWN – Assemblyman Andy Goodell is projected to have won re-election for the state’s 150th Assembly seat.

Goodell received 34,627 votes, 73 percent of those cast, over Democratic challenger Christina Cardinale who received 12,514 votes, 26 percent.

Goodell told WNY News Now’s Matt Hummel that he anticipated this race to be complex in the many ways votes cast their ballots this fall.

“This election is unusual in that it is almost in three phases, the first phase are the absentee ballots and in Chautauqua County there are almost twice as many Democrats as Republicans that asked for absentee ballots,” said Goodell. “The second phase is early voting, and we had over 10,000 people early voting, so it is a fairly substantial number, and the people voting early tended to favor the Democrats.”

However the third phase, Election Day voting, likely pushed Goodell over the top of his challenger.

Aside from 10,000 absentee votes yet to be counted, Goodell leads Cardinale by 22,113 votes.
