ROCHESTER – Three iconic toys have been inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.
The winners include, Baby Nancy, the first black doll to have an afro and dark skin.
The groundbreaking doll was launched nationwide in 1968.
The toy is credited with making cultural and commercial breakthroughs in the U.S.
Sidewalk chalk was also inducted. Great “masterpieces” have been created on sidewalks all over the world because of the sticks.
People use the chalk to play games outside such as tic-tac-toe, hopscotch, and four square.
And last, but not least, Jenga! According to the manufacturer, the wooden block game was created in Ghana in the 1970s.
Fun fact: the record for the highest known Jenga tower is 40 complete stories.
The Strong National Museum of Play announced the twelve toy finalists back in September.
Anyone can nominate a toy to the National Toy Hall of Fame. Final selections were made on the advice of historians and educators.
