JAMESTOWN – The weekend will be a toss-up with an overall nice but cool start then it becomes very windy for the second half with scattered to widespread rain showers at times.
As high pressure moves out, a deep storm system will bring rain and wind to the region over the second half of the weekend. Even colder air filters in fro next week which may produce some snow showers at times early next week.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for Chautauqua County, going into effect at 6 a.m. Sunday and running through 1 a.m. Monday morning.
Winds could gust as high as 60 MPH throughout the day on Sunday in spots, which can lead to scattered power outages and and minor property damage. The strongest winds look to be from the morning hours to early afternoon, backing off slightly for the evening.
After and early rain or snow shower, the clouds will stick with us throughout the overnight. Lows 28 in the valleys, 37 at the Lake Erie shoreline.
Morning clouds on Saturday will give way to partly to mostly sunny skies in the afternoon. Still rather chilly. Highs 51 to 48.
As an advancing storm system moves to our north and west Saturday night, rain and wind will pick up throughout the night. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 MPH. Lows 33 to 41.
Sunday will be a rather wet and very windy day with scattered to widespread showers at times. Possibly some thunder. Highs 47 to 54. Winds SW 20-40 MPH with gusts up to 60 MPH.
As colder air filters in behind the system, a few rain and or snow showers will be possible on Monday with partial sunshine. Highs in the lower 40’s.
Another deepening trough will advance through the Great Lakes next week which will set the stage for some snow showers Tuesday and Wednesday with maybe some pockets of lake effect. At this time, we do not know if there will be accumulation of the snow, how much, and where. It is simply too early in the game to figure that out. With that said, our eyes on being kept on it and will update you with what we know as we progress through the next several days.
Highs both Tuesday and Wednesday will fall well into the mid 30’s.
We should dry out on Thursday with partly to mostly cloudy skies and highs near 40.
