WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Reed is urging Americans to “be calm” as President-Elect Joe Biden’s Inauguration Day is less than a week away.

Reed’s comments came just over an hour before President Donald Trump was impeached for the second time by the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressman, himself, voted against the impeachment on the sole charge of “incitement of insurrection.”

Reed, however, told reporters during a media conference call yesterday that it is critical for emotions to be contained as the House inched closer to the impeachment vote.

“Now is the time for us to take a deep breath,” Reed said. “Now is the time for us to seek calmness, stay calm, see reason in our responses and or rhetoric and go forward with a transition of power on Jan. 20, between now and then, in a peaceful and calm matter.”

Reed said he was “proud” to be involved in a bicameral, bipartisan letter to urge President Trump to address the nation and ask the nation to avoid further acts of violence.

“We will continue to be a voice of trying to unite this country, try to lead the country where I can, and to align myself with members who are committed to having this process completed with a commitment to the Constitution, a commitment to making sure that we are looking long term,” Reed said. “We are looking to unite this Country, and we are looking to get through these troubling times in a way that we come out of it, and the sun rises, and start fresh in a mission to try to heal our wounds and come together as a country. ”

Reed also co-introduced legislation with GOP colleagues calling for the censoring of President Trump.
