LITTLE VALLEY – So far over 3,000 people received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Cattaraugus County, this as local health leaders continue to report new cases and fatalities connected to the virus.
Cattaraugus County Health Director Dr. Kevin Watkins tells WNY News Now he is facing a similar problem health department across the nation are experiencing; a lack in vaccine supply.
“At this pace we are hoping that the feds will open up their supply and start to issue more vaccines out to the states,” says Watkins. “When it is finally distributed to the local health department, we will finally be able to meet most of our demands that are coming in.”
On Thursday the Health Department reported 30 new cases and two deaths linked to the virus.
The deaths involved a 54-year-old man and 66-year-old man, both who developed respiratory failure.
Since the outbreak started in the county, over 3,000 cases of the virus have been tailed, with 507 of them still active.
