JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities is warning residents of a scam targeting their customers in Jamestown.

Communications Coordinator Becky Robbins says someone is impersonating BPU employees.

“We have had reports today of a person posing as a BPU employee stopping at residences, threatening to turn off utilities if the customer doesn’t pay the person right then at the door,” Robbins said. “Please be advised that the BPU does not send employees to residences demanding payment.”

Furthermore, she says BPU field workers wear BPU issued-uniforms and carry BPU picture identification, something the scammers would not have.
