JAMESTOWN – Gas prices in the Jamestown area remain on the rise, increasing eight cents from just last week.

The national average went up 13 cents to $2.64 and New York State’s average is up 10 cents to $2.70 from the past week.

According to GasBuddy’s daily survey, Jamestown’s price for a gallon of gasoline is now $2.75, up from $2.67 on Friday.

One year ago, the national average was $2.47 and the state’s was $2.61.

Auto club AAA says the winter weather has been impacting Gulf Coast refineries’ gas supplies and ability to operate.

Until normal operations resume, the supply is expected to remain tight in impacted areas.

The circumstance, the group explains, is very similar to a Gulf Coast hurricane’s impact.

Motorists concerned about potential price gouging are encouraged to contact the State Attorney General.
