ALBANY – The push to reel in New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s emergency powers continues, however, some lawmakers are at odds over how to move forward with the process.

Republicans in both chambers of the state Assembly and Senate are introducing a hostile amendment to rescind the Governor’s emergency powers.

The effort now is to get the amendment to a vote, something Assemblyman Andy Goodell, who represents Chautauqua County, is pushing for.

“I’m joining in asking my Democrat colleagues to put the interests of the people first, don’t put politics first, put the interests of people first, put your constituents first,” said Goodell. “Step up to the plate, exercise your legislative responsibilities, and lets move forward with a democratically formed government with checks and balances focusing on the future of New York State.”

So far only 20 senators have voted to allow an amendment calling for an immediate vote on the bill.
