BOSTON – Six Doctor Seuss books are on their way to becoming rarities.

Doctor Seuss Enterprises announced it will no longer sell the books because they, “portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong.”

That statement was released Tuesday, on Doctor Seuss’ Birthday.

The affected books include: “And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street,” “If I Ran The Zoo,” “Mcelligot’s Pool,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” “Scrambled Eggs Super!,” and “The Cat’s Quizzer.”

The company says it worked with a panel of experts to reach the decision.

Tuesday is ‘Read Across America’ day, started by the National Education Association to encourage children to read and to get excited about books.

The American artist is best known for authoring over 60 children’s books.
