BUFFALO – A 30-year-old Jamestown man could spend 20-years behind bars and pay a million dollar fine after pleading guilty to federal drug charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that Jeffrey Guzman Suarez pleaded guilty to attempting to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute it in a Buffalo Courtroom on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say in October 2019 U.S. Postal Inspectors were alerted to a suspicious parcel addressed to Guzman Suarez sent from Puerto Rico to Jamestown.

After searching the package investigators allegedly found a small portable charcoal grill, an off-white chunky substance in brick form wrapped in multiple layers of plastic wrap, food storage bags and cleaning wipes. The substance, prosecutors say, later tested positive for cocaine.

Postal Inspectors switched the cocaine with a look alike, which Guzman Suarez picked up at the Jamestown Post Office. He was then arrested and taken into custody.

Sentencing in the case is scheduled for August 30.
