WESTFIELD – Police have identified the woman who was struck and killed by a train in Westfield on Thursday afternoon.

The Westfield Police Department says 62-year-old Dixie Smith, of Sherman, was last seen walking on the CSX Railroad Tracks around 3:15 p.m. before she was hit.

Smith, police say, was located underneath the train and later pronounced deceased by the Chautauqua County Coroner.

Investigators tell WNY News Now they were able to identify the woman only after locating her vehicle parked nearby.
