WESTERN NEW YORK – A Silver Creek Girl Scout’s hard work to help raise funds for premature babies is being heralded.

The Girl Scouts of Western New York named Amanda Roth one of 56 Gold Award recipients. The award is, according to the scouts, “the most prestigious award in the world for girls.”

A member of Troop No. 20163, Roth organized the “Roaring 20s Fundraiser for Premature Babies at Mercy Hospital.” For her work, she has been described as an “exceptional change-maker.”

To be eligible for the honor, Roth had to create a project that fulfilled, “a need within a girl’s community (whether local or global) and create change that has the potential to be on-going or sustainable.

Approximately 80 hours of community service are involved,” said the aforementioned press release.

Being a Gold Award recipient makes Roth eligible for “special scholarship opportunities and she can enlist in the military at a higher starting pay grade.”
