CORNING – A man has been arrested and charged in connection with vandalism and threats made towards Congressman Tom Reed last year.

Watkins Glen resident Jack Kahabka was arrested without affair by Corning Police and the F.B.I. He is now facing several felonies connected to the alleged acts, including making terroristic threats.

In August, a brick was thrown through a street-facing window of Congressman Reed’s office in Corning. No campaign staffers were in the building at the time and no injuries were reported. At the time, surveillance video was unable to successfully identify the perpetrator.

Kahabka is also accused of leaving a dead rat and a brick at the Congressman’s family home in October last year. Reed said that he had been “threatened” at the time.

Friday the Congressman expressed his gratitude towards the law enforcement members who have been assisting in the case.

“Today, we are incredibly thankful that our family can rest easier knowing the person who threatened and intimidated us this past fall has been arrested,” said Reed in a statement. “We also want to thank the people of our community for their support throughout this ordeal – our family appreciates it more than you know.”

He says while the incident greatly impacted his family, he hopes this starts the closure and healing process in the matter.
