WESTFIELD (Erie News Now) – Every once in a while we ask our loyal viewers of The Last Word to send in story ideas. We received an interesting one about a place called Skinny Dip Falls. The name says it all.
Skinny Dip Falls is located in Chautauqua County about five miles outside of Westfield. We thought we would first stop in town and talk with some local residents to find out just what we were getting ourselves into. One man said he never heard of the place. Another confirmed that Skinny Dip Falls lives up to its name.
We arrive at a small parking area on a dead end road and soon we are walking down a washboard path. We’re first time visitors to Skinny Dip Falls and have no idea what lies ahead.
We’ve walked a half mile from where we parked the car and still haven’t seen any skinny dippers or any falls. If we ever do see any of those things, we’re going to have to work for it because the entrance path is very slippery, very rocky, and very steep.
We soon get to a creek and find that we’re on the right track. A painted rock warns visitors that they are in a nudist area for the next mile. Soon there’s another warning rock…and then another.
However, on this day, there’s no bare breasts or buttocks. Just a babbling brook. But, it’s beautiful.
It’s a perfect day. The creek reflects the trees and sky above. There’s no giant waterfalls pouring down from the towering cliffs. Not today. There is a small waterfall in the middle of the creek. The sound of the falling water makes all worries and troubles go away.
It is the perfect place to become one with nature…clothes or no clothes.
