NEW YORK – New York State’s Health Commissioner has resigned.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the news during a COVID-19 briefing on Thursday morning.

Dr. Howard Zucker has been under fire for his close ties with former Governor Andrew Cuomo and the handling of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.

“I made it very clear on my first day in office that I planned to build a new team, but I thank Dr. Zucker for his willingness to stay on,” said Hochul.

Zucker was first appointed to the position by Cuomo.
