MAYVILLE – Additional details surrounding the set of human remains recovered along a trail in Chautauqua County last week are expected to come to light during a press conference on Thursday.

Last Sunday a hiker found human remains in a wooded area along the “rails to trail” area near Woleben Road in the Town of Portland.

Following an additional search of the area the next day, investigators located a second set of remains nearby.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Investigation Team is working with the Mercyhurst Forensic Anthropology Department in identifying the two remains; which are both believed to be female. Results of the identification could be revealed during the conference.

Sheriff Jim Quattrone is hopeful his department can bring closure to at least one of several decades old cold cases after identifying the remains.

In an interview last week, Quattrone said first set of remains could be Patricia Limerhardt who went missing from Westfield in 1976, or Lori Bova who went missing from Lakewood in 1997, or Corey Anderson who was last seen in Jamestown in 2008.

In a follow-up part of the Sheriff’s Investigation, the remainder of the “rails to trail” system was searched this week.

Viewers can watch the press conference live on WNY News Now’s 24/7 streaming network, Facebook page or Channel 716 on Roku starting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Our newsroom will provide follow-up reporting during the press conference.
