MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County’s sales tax collections slightly dropped in the month of September.
According to a report released by New York State’s Comptroller, sales countywide brought in $9.6 million in taxes during the month, 3.2 percent lower than September 2020.
However, the county saw growth during the third quarter as a whole, bringing in $23.8 million from July to September. That is a 14 percent increase from the same time last year.
Statewide sales tax collections in September were up. When comparing the third quarter statewide, around $5.2 billion in sales taxes were collected, up by $861 million from this time last year.
The comptroller says the statewide growth is a sign that New York is seeing an economic recovery from the pandemic. However he warns that local governments must closely watch changing economic conditions as supply chain shortages and workforce disruptions continue.
