One Dies In Vehicle Fire In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD – Officials are determining the cause of a vehicle accident and subsequent fire Friday night where human remains were discovered.

Crews from the Lakewood Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire just before 9 p.m. Friday near the Lakewood Dog Park. Upon arrival, crews found a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames about thirty yards off the road in a wooded area with power lines down.

Heavy damage to the truck was found from impact along with human remains inside the vehicle. The remains were recovered and transferred to the Chautauqua County Coroners office.











Terrace Avenue was closed between Lake and Dunham Avenues to Terrace and Fairdale. Crews remained on scene until around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Lakewood-Busti Police, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the Fire Investigation Team, and National Grid assisted in the scene.
