JAMESTOWN – A new family style restaurant in Brooklyn Square abruptly closed following nearly three months of operation.

Jimmy’s Family Restaurant in a post on Facebook announced the closure Sunday afternoon.

“We are sorry to announce that Jimmy’s is closing effective immediately,” the post read. “We appreciate the patronage we have received from so many great customers. We are also so grateful to our staff who worked so hard. We gave it a shot.”

Owned by City of Jamestown Director of Development, Vince DeJoy, the eatery opened in August months after the local Friendly’s chain closed their doors.

Around 50 people, some of whom are former Friendly’s employees, were hired as part of the opening.

DeJoy said the name Jimmy’s was a play on Jamestown’s famed nickname, Jimmytown, and in honor of his two grandfathers who both went by the name.

This was not DeJoy’s first restaurant venture. He and his brother previously owned and operated ‘Stage Left’ in the 1990’s, which is currently Forte.

  1. Such a shame to see another restaurant close in that great location. Someone needs to open it and do what it takes to make a go of it. Keep the prices reasonable and the staff hospitable.

I heard that it closed down due to a real estate scandal. Is this true?
