One Person Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash On Gerry-Ellington Road

GERRY – One person died and another was injured in a serious single-vehicle crash near 2571 Gerry-Ellington Road Friday morning.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department identified the deceased victim as  Paul R. Newell, 43, of Steamburg.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson told WNYNewsNow’s Matt Hummel, who was on scene, that one person was taken to a regional hospital. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department reported the injured person, driver James A.Newell, 41, of Steamburg, was flown to Hamot Hospital in Erie.





The Sheriff’s Department reported the passenger in the vehicle was declared dead after being partially ejected from the vehicle and that the driver suffered apparently non-life-threatening injuries.

The Gerry Fire Department and Chautauqua County EMS were dispatched to the location shortly before 11:30 a.m. Also on scene were the Chautauqua County Accident Reconstruction Team, the Sinclairville Fire Department, the Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office and the Chautauqua County Fly Car.

Currently the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and County DA’s office are investigating the scene. Traffic-related charges may be pending following the investigation, Sheriff Jim Quattrone told WNYNewsNow.
