You were crowned the king and queen of the metaphorical ice castle, the stand-in this week for the Winter Festival
0:08
Tell us what that means to you guys and your family. It's really nice to be included in this and recognize and we love our community and being a part of Mayville
0:19
Yeah, no, it's an honor. It's a privilege. You know, we've been to the ice castle since I was a little kid and now to be a part of it this way is quite an honor
0:29
and, you know, this is a great modified ice castle. It won't melt
0:34
And, you know, it's western New York, so you never know what's going to happen. And the weather that we wanted just came a little bit late
0:40
That's all. But it's here now. And that's the funny part about it
0:44
It's like you look at last week and you think it was April, not February
0:48
And then tonight it's back to winter again and tomorrow back to spring
0:53
as members of the Mayville community and seeing this tradition be able to bring life to the area
1:02
in a hard time for businesses, right? You don't have the summer tourism
1:08
You have the snowmobiles and things like that. How important is it to have a festival like this
1:14
Well, you know, especially this time of year when you've been through that season of darkness and cold
1:20
and everyone's, you gotta kinda find a way to kick that cabin fever and this is a good opportunity to get out and do something different be with community members and you know a lot of years it draws a lot of people from outside of Mayville and gives us some good exposure but at any rate it a good good
1:38
opportunity for the weekend to come on out and and and have some fun with the
1:42
winter. Do either of you have a favorite aspect of the Winter Festival
1:48
Typically going out on the ice is what I like. I like the food. And the kids activities are always fun
1:56
I like the toy store part from last year. That was really good. And one year I got
2:04
a bunch of balloon animals. I had like a whole mouse family
2:08
When I was like five or something. That sense of bringing the community, bringing kids together, creating
2:16
a safe place for families to enjoy. I'm sure that's a big attribute of this
2:23
Yep, we like the sleigh rides too. We got to do that last year
2:27
I just like the whole thing. That's awesome. As king and queen, do either of you have a message for the goers of the festival
2:36
Well, I guess come on out. It was spring-like earlier in the week, but winter's back
2:43
and there's vendors here and our Chamber of Commerce worked really hard to put this together
2:48
So, again, it's a good time to come on out and be together
