FREDONIA – A head-on collision on Route 60 caused injuries to two people Wednesday morning.

State Police told WNYNewsNow that Jeffrey Strauss, no age given, of Dunkirk, was traveling southbound on Route 60 when he attempted to turn left onto the New York State Thruway when he hit another vehicle, driven by Susan Kurgan, no age given, of Fredonia.

Strauss reportedly told police that, due to the glare from the wet road, he misjudged the distance and turned into the path of the second vehicle, causing the collision.

Both drivers were taken to Brooks Hospital for “minor” injuries. Police said Strauss was issued a ticket for “failure to yield the right of way.”

Chautauqua County Dispatch has reported numerous traffic incidents throughout the county.

Officials urge drivers to use caution on area roadways as Lake Effect Snow is expected to fall Wednesday afternoon and evening.
