MAYVILLE – A yearly grant to help improve area lakes and waterways is yet again available.

Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello told WNYNewsNow that the county takes revenue from the bed tax to help improve area lakes and water ways.

Borrello said anyone who owns property along a lake or waterway can apply as long as the improvements create a positive impact to the watershed.

“You could be a farmer who has an issue with animal waste going into the water, municipalities and other groups also apply, so it’s a wide cross section of people,” said Borrello. “It is not just a grant application for government entities. I think that is the important point.”

The county executive said the planning and community development department can also assist residents in identifying eligible projects on a one-on-one basis.

Requests of up to $40,000 of project cost will be considered for this grant.

The grant application closes on Apr. 1, 2019.

Applications are available online on the Chautauqua County website. Hard copies can be obtained at the Chautauqua County Division of Planning and Community Development in Westfield.
