GERRY – The driver in last Friday’s fatal motor vehicle crash faces several charges, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. 

James A. Newell, 41, of Steamburg, is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, unsafe passing, failure to keep right and speed not reasonable and prudent. Newell will appear in the Town of Gerry Court.

Paul R. Newell, 43, of Steamburg, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The charges came after an investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the District Attorney’s Office and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
