Horse And Buggy Struck Head-On While Traveling On I-86

KENNEDY – An Amish horse and unoccupied buggy that was traveling the wrong way on I-86 eastbound near Kennedy was struck by a semi truck Sunday night.

New York State Police said the horse and buggy’s owner, Emanuel Kurtz, 44, of Mud Creek Road, told investigators the horse ran off with the buggy before he could get the buggy secured.

The horse ended up going the wrong way on I-86 when it was hit by the semi.

Police said the driver the of the truck, Kevin Jacobs, 57, of Louisville, Kentucky was not hurt.

Chautauqua County HAZMAT crews, Kennedy and Falconer Firefighters responded to the scene.

The horse was killed in the collision.
