BUFFALO – Two priests, both who served in Chautauqua County, accused of child sexual abuse have been cleared to return to their priestly duties following an investigation by the independent Diocesan Review Board.

The Rev. Robert A. Stolinski and the Rev. John J. Sardina have been returned to active service, while a third priest, the Rev. Ronald B. Mierzwa, remains on administrative leave until his case is reviewed at the Vatican. Mierzwa served in Ellicottville.

Stolinski, a Dunkirk native, served as the Catholic chaplain at the former WCA Hospital. He also was pastor at Our Lady of Victory Church in Frewsburg and St. James Church in Jamestown.

Sardina, who is retired, served at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia in the mid-1980s.

Bishop Richard J. Malone of the Buffalo Diocese released the news in a statement this week in which he said the Diocesan Review Board thoroughly reviewed the investigation into the three priest’s alleged activities.
