ALLEGANY – An Erie County woman is charged after she allegedly struck a Cattaraugus County Sheriff Deputy with handcuffs on April 3, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office. 

Deputies reportedly responded to an accident on Route 417. Kiersten K. Kennedy, 24, of Lawtons, allegedly drove while intoxicated, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

While Kennedy was being taken to the Allegany Police Station for a DWI charge, Kennedy removed the handcuffs and wrapped them around her hand before allegedly striking the deputy.

Kennedy was placed back into custody following a short struggle. Kennedy is charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, moving from lane unsafely and second-degree assault. She was arraigned and remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

The deputy reportedly received treatment for facial lacerations.
