WEST ELLICOTT – When Emogene Saulsgiver was born, Woodrow Wilson was president, gasoline was 15 cents a gallon, a new house cost $3,200 and the median income in the United States was $687 a year.

Saulsgiver recently celebrated her 99th birthday at Orchard Grove Assisted Living at The Woodlands by Heritage in West Ellicott, NY, surrounded by family, friends, and staff.

A resident at Orchard Grove since September 2017, Emogene celebrated with carrot cake, and wearable table napkins handcrafted by her daughter, stating the day was “just beautiful!”

Emogene enjoys an active lifestyle at Orchard Grove, still knitting dolls, hats, and booties to donate to Shriners Hospital.

“We are blessed to have Emogene as a resident here. She has such a kind and giving heart. We were honored to be able to celebrate this milestone with her,” Tammy Deviliger, Administrator at Orchard Grove,” said.

Heritage Ministries was founded as the Orphanage and Homes of the Free Methodist Church in 1886 and has grown from its original campus in Gerry, to six locations in New York with additional affiliations in the states of Washington, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.
